Temporary Hold on Volunteer Applications
SVdP Exeter is grateful for the incredible support of our community and the many individuals who wish to volunteer. At this time, our volunteer team is full, and we are not accepting new volunteer applications. We encourage you to check back in the future for any updates or new opportunities.
Although we are not onboarding new volunteers right now, volunteers normally assist with tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds, packing bags, moving food items, and standing for approximately 2.5 hours. Our organization relies on dedicated volunteers for nearly every part of our operations, and we deeply appreciate the interest in helping us serve those in need.
If volunteering isn’t a fit at this time, no problem — there are still many ways to support your community, including donations, spreading awareness, or contributing in other meaningful ways.

Volunteer Roles
- Prep: Put together shelf-stable food bags, produce bags, dairy bags, meat bags, personal care bags, and snack bags.
- Food Distributor: Run pre-made bags out to clients, disassemble unused bags, and clean up after each pantry session.
- Drivers: Pick up the weekly order at the NH Food Bank on Mondays. Drivers must be able to lift 30 pounds.
- Unpack Deliveries: Unpack and sort meat and bread deliveries.
Volunteering FAQ
How can I become a volunteer at the food pantry?
Because we are so blessed to have a large community of volunteers to fill all of our current needs, we are temporarily not accepting new volunteer applications. Please check back with us in the near future.
What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities, including sorting and packing food, assisting clients, helping with fundraising events and more. There’s a role for everyone!
Do I need any special skills or training to volunteer?
No special skills are needed. We provide all the training to make sure you’re comfortable and ready for your volunteer role. Some roles may require that you are able to lift up to 25 lbs, pack bags, move food items or stand for approximately 2.5 hours. However, several volunteer roles involve little or no physical activity. Individuals with disabilities are welcome to join our community of volunteers.
How much time do I need to commit to volunteering?
We offer flexible volunteer shifts to fit different schedules. Whether you can commit to a few hours a week or just a few hours a month, we appreciate every moment of your time that you are willing to donate!
I’m an SVdP client currently receiving help. Can I also participate as a volunteer?
Our policy prohibits active clients from volunteering with us. However, some of our volunteers are former clients who chose to donate their time once their period of financial instability had passed.
Do I have to be Catholic?
No. We welcome volunteers and clients of all faiths. Our society is deeply rooted in Catholic beliefs and we are inspired by the life and work of St. Vincent de Paul in service of Christ, but we believe that the duty to help our neighbors in need is a community responsibility not limited to persons of any particular faith. Although we are closely associated with St. Michael parish and our lobby is decorated with religious symbols, we do not proselytize or pressure anyone to become Catholic.
What is the minimum age to volunteer?
You must be 18 years or older to volunteer.
